Los Angeles, Sep 4 (NationPress) Fans of the DCU, the DC Cinematic Universe, have much to celebrate! Actor David Corenswet will be soaring through the skies as Superman in the upcoming sequel to James Gunn‘s summer blockbuster ‘Superman’, which is set to hit theaters in July 2027.
On Wednesday, director and co-head of DC Films, James Gunn, took to social media to unveil the official title and release date for this much-anticipated project, according to reports from ‘Variety’.
‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ is slated for release on July 9, 2027. In his announcement, Gunn shared a comic book illustration featuring Superman alongside Lex Luthor in his Warsuit, indicating that the sequel will continue to delve into Luthor's ongoing rivalry with the ‘Man of Steel’.
According to ‘Variety’, Luthor, portrayed by Nicholas Hoult in the film, constructs the suit to rival Superman's powers; following the unsuccessful attempt to use a clone to defeat Superman in Gunn’s original film, Luthor appears determined to take matters into his own hands.
In August, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed that Gunn would return to write and direct this sequel, following the character's creative reboot. The first film grossed over $611 million worldwide this summer, making it the top-grossing superhero film of the year.
‘Man of Tomorrow’ will follow the 2026 releases of the space-themed ‘Supergirl’ (directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Ana Mogueira, starring Milly Alcock) and the body horror film ‘Clayface’ (directed by James Watkins, written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, starring Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie).
This accelerated timeline means that the ‘Superman’ sequel will premiere ahead of Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman Part II’, which is currently scheduled for October 1, 2027.
