Mumbai, June 3 (NationPress) Director R.S. Prasanna, who is eagerly anticipating the premiere of his new film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, believes that humanity will soon align with the rapid technological advancements in filmmaking.
The director engaged in conversation with IANS prior to the film’s release, which stars Bollywood icon Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh. He reminisced about witnessing Indian cinema great Kamal Haasan experimenting with the Red Dragon digital camera.
Prasanna reflected, “I believe the industry is quite swift in adapting. I recall when 35mm film was standard; I was in film school, and Kamal Haasan sir was testing the Red camera at our L.V. Prasad Film Institute in Chennai. He was conducting a test shoot, and I remember people saying, ‘it’s just a phase, it won’t succeed,’ but it did.”
The director emphasized that the evolution of technology is inevitable, and adaptation is essential. The audience's desire for change will drive filmmakers to innovate. While some experiments will succeed and others will not, the process is ongoing.
He elaborated, “However, one aspect that will remain unchanged is the essence of humanity; as long as we have emotion, visuals become mere pixels, and sounds become just decibels. But that feeling, that soul—human-told stories will always resonate.”
He pointed to how the representation of romance in cinema has evolved, yet its core remains unchanged. “Romance has existed since ancient times; it may be labeled differently today, but the heart still aches when one cannot be with the person they desire.”
“Unless our hearts or minds undergo a genetic shift, storytelling and emotions will persist. The expression may evolve, and as a director, I must remain attuned to this, but I seek the soul, which is timeless and will not change rapidly,” he added.
Produced by Aamir Khan under his banner, Aamir Khan Productions, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ is scheduled to hit theaters on June 20, 2025.
