Mumbai, June 16 (NationPress) Director R.S. Prasanna, who is preparing for the launch of his forthcoming film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, has disclosed that he and his team auditioned over 2500 individuals for the film.
The director recently engaged in a conversation with IANS, elaborating on the lengthy and challenging casting process that lasted nearly 10 months. Auditions were conducted online and posed significant challenges as they sought individuals without professional experience to maintain a degree of rawness.
Prasanna stated during his discussion with IANS, “The casting took almost eight to ten months, with Tess Joseph (casting director) and Anmol involved throughout this period. If my memory serves me right, we auditioned around 2,500 individuals, narrowing it down to approximately 50 candidates.”
He further noted that a series of workshops were organized, as individuals who had never acted professionally required guidance in preparation.
He mentioned, “We needed to create an environment where they felt at ease. Only then can they truly express themselves. I wasn’t focused on whether they were professional actors; I wanted to capture their authenticity and rawness. It was my responsibility to foster that environment, and luckily, Aamir Khan sir was incredibly supportive as a producer.”
Discussing the preparations for actors with special needs, he remarked, “We organized foundational workshops on acting, clowning, dance, and more. As we conducted these sessions, I would be observing because we were not just assessing acting; we were also looking for personality alignment with our ten characters.”
“Additionally, we have nearly 70 characters comprising individuals with special needs who will portray the opposing teams in the film,” he added.
