Los Angeles, April 10 (NationPress) The immensely popular series The Last of Us is gearing up for its third season. The renewal comes even before the highly anticipated premiere of Season 2 on April 13.
While the inaugural season adapted the beloved 2013 Sony Playstation game of the same name, the sequel, The Last of Us Part II, released in 2020, is so expansive that creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann always intended to divide its narrative across multiple seasons, according to Variety.
In a recent discussion regarding the seven-episode Season 2, Mazin expressed his belief that the series may need “one or two more seasons” to fully explore the story of Part II.
He mentioned to Variety, “It’s becoming increasingly challenging to produce, as every episode is becoming larger. We don’t want to leave fans waiting four years for a conclusion with 17 episodes or something similar.”
In conjunction with the renewal announcement, Mazin remarked, “Our approach to Season 2 was driven by the desire to create a product we could take pride in. The outcomes have surpassed even our loftiest aspirations, thanks to our ongoing partnership with HBO and the incredible efforts of our unmatched cast and crew.”
According to Variety, the narrative unfolds in a post-apocalyptic landscape ravaged by a fungal pandemic that turns infected individuals into zombies. Returning for Season 2 are Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, alongside Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley. New additions to the cast include Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, Danny Ramirez, Jeffrey Wright, Catherine O’Hara, Joe Pantoliano, Alanna Ubach, Ben Ahlers, Hettienne Park, Robert John Burke, and Noah Lamanna.
