Los Angeles, Dec 19 (NationPress) The upcoming film titled “Digger”, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, will feature Tom Cruise as the ‘most powerful man in the world’. This highly anticipated movie is set to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
The initial poster and teaser for this Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment project have been unveiled, showcasing the film as “a comedy of catastrophic proportions.”
Tom Cruise shared the poster on Instagram, stating: “Introducing…DIGGER. A comedy of catastrophic proportions from director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Only in theaters October 2026.”
Cruise plays the role of Digger Rockwell. While the detailed storyline remains under wraps, Warner Bros. has provided a brief logline indicating that Cruise’s character is “the most powerful man in the world” who “embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything,” as reported by variety.com.
The film’s ensemble cast includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, and Emma D’Arcy. “Digger” marks Cruise’s first collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery since signing a deal in January to develop and produce theatrical films. His last project with the studio was “Edge of Tomorrow” a decade ago.
This film, shot in the U.K. over six months, is Iñárritu’s first English-language venture since “The Revenant.” He will produce and direct “Digger,” co-writing the script in 2023 alongside Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, who collaborated on “Birdman.” The film is a joint production by Cruise and Iñárritu.
The release timing suggests “Digger” may debut at the Venice Film Festival, where Iñárritu showcased his last film, “Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths,” which received an Oscar nomination for best cinematography in 2023; his previous work “Birdman” won the best picture Oscar in 2015.
Inárritu has a rich history with Cannes, having presented films that launched his international career, such as “Amores Perros,” along with “Babel” and “Biutiful.” His return to the Croisette featured “Flesh and Sand” (“Carne y Arena”), a virtual-reality short that earned a special achievement Oscar in 2018.
