Ghola, May 31 (NationPress) Residents of Ghola in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district are benefiting immensely from the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), a key initiative by the Central government designed to make high-quality medicines both affordable and accessible to everyone.
As a part of this program, Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been set up throughout the district, providing essential medications at discounts ranging from 50% to 90%. These centers have become crucial for many, especially for individuals from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
In an effort to lower out-of-pocket healthcare costs, a diverse selection of quality generic medications is available through these dedicated outlets known as 'Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras.' These medications are priced much lower than their branded equivalents, yet maintain the same effectiveness.
In an interview with IANS, Sanjeev Biswas, who operates a Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Ghola, revealed, “We have all types of medications available for everyone. Until now, we have never had to turn anyone away due to stock issues. Every family can access essential medicines. We also stock items like Chyawanprash. Our discounts range from 50% to 90%. These Kendras greatly benefit the common and underprivileged. Life-saving medicines are now accessible at significantly lower prices. More such centers would further enhance public benefit.”
Initiated in November 2008, the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra initiative was introduced by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers to ensure the availability of premium quality generic medicines at affordable prices.
The primary aim is to encourage the use of cost-effective generic drugs, which provide quality and effectiveness comparable to expensive branded medications.
The PMBJP scheme has witnessed considerable growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Thousands of Jan Aushadhi Kendras are now operational across India, catering to millions.
To raise awareness about the benefits of generic medications, March 7 is recognized annually as 'Jan Aushadhi Diwas.' This year, a week-long campaign from March 1 to 7 featured awareness drives and events nationwide, further motivating citizens to utilize these Kendras and embrace affordable healthcare solutions.
