Patna, June 4 (NationPress) In a shocking turn of events that has ignited widespread outrage, a rural doctor was brutally assaulted after being bound to a tree in Bihar's Gaya district while attending to a medical emergency.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday in a village under the jurisdiction of the Maoist-affected Gurpa police station, prompting fierce criticism from Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar. He compared the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar to that of Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
According to police reports, Dr. Jitendra Yadav had responded to an urgent call to provide medical assistance to the mother of a gang-rape victim.
Upon his arrival, he was forcibly dragged from the house by local residents and violently assaulted after being tied to a tree. In a remarkable act of bravery, the victim’s minor niece alerted the authorities by running from the scene and flagging down a Dial 112 emergency vehicle.
The police arrived just in time to rescue the severely injured doctor, who was first transported to Fatehpur CHC and later referred to Magadh Medical College due to the critical nature of his injuries.
Tejashwi Yadav shared footage of the assault on social media, condemning the Nitish Kumar government by stating, “The situation in Bihar is worse than the Taliban.”
He highlighted that a doctor attempting to save a life was viciously attacked by local criminals.
The Bihar LoP criticized the NDA’s “corrupt” governance over the past two decades, claiming that the state apparatus has become inept in delivering justice, leading citizens to take the law into their own hands.
“The Chief Minister is oblivious, the government lacks direction, the administration is dysfunctional, and officials are preoccupied with plundering the treasury,” he asserted.
This incident has intensified scrutiny regarding the state’s declining law and order.
In the meantime, police have initiated an investigation and are conducting raids to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Authorities have also commended the young girl’s courage, emphasizing that her swift actions may have saved the doctor’s life.
