The fallen trooper, identified as Lakhwinder Singh (55), was the son of Ajaib Singh and hailed from Punjab.
Singh was serving with the 90 Battalion, E Company, at Anantnag Railway Station at the time of his passing.

Security personnel perform their roles under severe winter conditions in the Kashmir Valley. Despite having heating facilities in their barracks, they often find themselves on roadside duties.
Their responsibilities include ensuring safe passage for VIPs, military convoys, and civilians, as well as protecting sensitive sites and collaborating with local police during anti-terror operations.
Security forces are granted periodic leaves to reconnect with their families and are provided with recreational opportunities, including sports.
In the region, coordinated operations against terrorists, their overground associates (OGWs), and sympathizers are undertaken by J&K Police alongside the CRPF.
The Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) are stationed at the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border, respectively, to prevent infiltration, exfiltration, drug trafficking, and drone activities originating from Pakistan.
The CRPF also organizes sports competitions and events for local youth to engage them in positive activities, steering them away from the lure of terrorist influences.
