The tragedy unfolded on Friday night in the rural police station area close to Palanpur, where a fatal road accident took the life of a young individual, identified as Nikhil Chourasia.
His body was transported to the district hospital for a post-mortem, but by morning, it had been severely mutilated by stray dogs.
A distressing video of this event has since gone viral on social media.
Confirming the incident, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sudhir Vijayavargiya informed IANS that the hospital lacks a dedicated freezer or appropriate facilities for body storage due to its outdated infrastructure, although a new facility is currently under construction.
In the interim, bodies are stored in open areas with relatives nearby, and security personnel are deployed to supervise them.
He mentioned that a show-cause notice would be issued to the accountable personnel — the security guards, who are contracted on an outsourced basis.

Overwhelmed with grief and anger, they confronted the hospital staff regarding the negligence.
