Bhopal, May 11 (NationPress) The alarming condition of management at Narmadapuram District Hospital (72 km from Bhopal) in Madhya Pradesh has come to light through a shocking incident — stray dogs attacked and mutilated the body of a young man who was left for post-mortem overnight, highlighting a disturbing level of negligence by the hospital authorities.

The tragedy unfolded on Friday night in the rural police station area close to Palanpur, where a fatal road accident took the life of a young individual, identified as Nikhil Chourasia.

His body was transported to the district hospital for a post-mortem, but by morning, it had been severely mutilated by stray dogs.

A distressing video of this event has since gone viral on social media.

Confirming the incident, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sudhir Vijayavargiya informed IANS that the hospital lacks a dedicated freezer or appropriate facilities for body storage due to its outdated infrastructure, although a new facility is currently under construction.

In the interim, bodies are stored in open areas with relatives nearby, and security personnel are deployed to supervise them.

He mentioned that a show-cause notice would be issued to the accountable personnel — the security guards, who are contracted on an outsourced basis.

When the victim’s bereaved family arrived to claim the body, they were heartbroken to discover parts of his neck were torn. Overwhelmed with grief and anger, they confronted the hospital staff regarding the negligence. When asked about the situation, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Parag Saini told IANS that the viral video has drawn significant attention to the case.

While the family has not yet approached the police, an investigation is currently in progress.

Worryingly, this is not a one-off incident — several similar occurrences have been reported in the past, raising serious concerns about the hospital’s security and management.

The 21-year-old Nikhil Chaurasia, a resident of Banapura, was returning from a wedding in Palanpur with friends Hrithik Rajput and Rohit Mehra when a speeding vehicle collided with their bike on Dolriya Road.

Nikhil succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Hrithik and Rohit sustained critical injuries and are currently being treated at a private hospital.

Authorities have yet to identify the vehicle responsible for the tragic accident.

According to the latest annual report from the state health department, an allocation of Rs 13,270.31 crore was designated for the health budget, but only 89 percent or Rs 11,859.87 crore was invested during the financial year 2023-24, with Rs 600 crore reserved for infrastructure improvements during that year.

Point of View

I must emphasize the critical importance of accountability in healthcare facilities. This incident not only highlights extreme negligence but also calls for urgent reforms to ensure that such tragedies never recur. The safety and dignity of the deceased should be paramount, and we must demand better from our healthcare institutions.
