Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 3 (NationPress) The Telangana government has suspended four officials due to negligence after a disturbing incident where a stray dog attempted to nibble on a corpse inside the mortuary of a government hospital located in Jadcherla town.
Health Minister Damodar Raja Narsimha reacted strongly to this shocking event at the Area Hospital in Mahabubnagar district, leading to the suspension of four officials, including the hospital superintendent.
The stray dog reportedly entered the mortuary on Monday evening, attempting to nibble on the finger of a decomposed body that had been brought in for post-mortem, before it was successfully chased away by those present.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Monday, the body of a 33-year-old man, who had drowned, was brought to the old mortuary by police. Around 5 p.m., the stray dog entered the facility and began to nibble at the deceased's body.
Hospital officials indicated that the dog attempted to bite the finger of the deceased, but they managed to chase it away before any serious damage occurred.
Following the incident, the duty doctor proceeded with the post-mortem in the presence of police, and the body was subsequently returned to the family.
According to hospital authorities, post-mortems are currently being conducted in the old mortuary building, as the newly constructed mortuary block is not yet fully operational.
They noted that the old facility lacked a proper gate and had broken walls and shattered glass panes, allowing the dog to enter.
Responding to the incident, Health Minister Raja Narsimha directed Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) Commissioner Ajaya Kumar to visit the hospital on Tuesday morning for an inquiry.
The Commissioner gathered information from family members of the deceased, police, eyewitnesses, doctors, and hospital staff.
Based on his findings, the Health Minister ordered the suspension of Hospital Superintendent Dr. Chandrakala, Duty RMO Dr. Harinath, Duty Medical Officer Munisha, and Mortuary Supporting Staff (MNO) Raviprakash for their negligence, which contributed to this incident.
Commissioner Ajay Kumar affirmed that stringent measures would be implemented to prevent such occurrences in the future.
