Kolkata, August 12 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police announced on Tuesday that they have found no evidence to support claims that police officers assaulted the mother of the RG Kar victim during the "Nabanna Avijan" (March to the State Secretariat) last week.
The police further clarified that they did not harass the victim's father while he was attempting to file a complaint, confirming that his complaint has been officially registered at the Park Street police station.
Joint Commissioner of Police (headquarters), Miraj Khalid, stated this during a press conference.
Khalid mentioned that the Kolkata Police possess multiple videos from the incident that took place on August 9, 2025, but none depict any police officers assaulting the victim's mother.
"Currently, there is no evidence showing the police attacking the victim's mother in any of the video footage we have reviewed. All available videos have been scrutinized, and none show any instance of the victim's mother being mistreated by police on that day," Khalid noted.
The senior officer expressed regret over the injuries sustained by the victim's mother.
"If anyone has additional videos or images from that day, we encourage them to share them with the police," he urged.
In response to allegations that the Kolkata Police were uncooperative in assisting the victim's father with his complaint, Khalid asserted, "Their complaint has been logged at the Park Street police station, and an investigation is underway."
This statement followed complaints made by the victim's father to Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma, who accused the Shakespeare Sarani police station of failing to assist them in filing their complaint and redirecting them to other police stations.
