Amaravati, April 30 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, where six individuals, including five medical students, lost their lives when the car they were traveling in went out of control.
The mishap occurred along the Mumbai National Highway near Potireddypalem in Kovur mandal.
The vehicle flipped multiple times before crashing into a residential house, leading to the immediate death of a local resident identified as Venkata Ramanaiah, aged 50.
Six medical students were critically injured and were transported to a nearby private hospital in Nellore, where tragically five of them succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Jeevan Chandra Reddy (Nellore), Naresh Naik (Anantapur), Abhishek Raj (Anantapur), Abhishashi Purshottam (Tirupati), and Yagnesh (Prakasam). Another student, Navneet Shankar (Kadapa), is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be stable.
All the deceased were second-year MBBS students at Narayana Medical College in Nellore.
The accident took place while the medicos were returning from a friend’s sister's engagement ceremony in Buchhireddypalem.
The car lost control near a petrol station and collided with a roadside house. Local residents quickly notified the authorities and the 108 ambulance service, which transported the injured students to the hospital.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the grieving families and assuring them of government support.
YSRCP President and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed profound shock and referred to the loss of young, promising lives as “heartbreaking.” He advocated for stronger road safety regulations.
“This tragedy highlights the pressing need for accountability and preventive measures,” he stated while extending condolences to the affected families.
