Lucknow, April 7 (NationPress) The government of Uttar Pradesh is achieving significant advancements in transforming the state’s healthcare system while effectively executing Central healthcare initiatives in remote and less accessible regions. The Tele-Manas mental health framework has experienced remarkable success in Uttar Pradesh, akin to the Ayushman Bharat program, and currently serves over 500 individuals seeking help for mental health issues.
Presently, a total of 525 individuals are availing themselves of free and confidential mental health support daily, as per an official report. A dedicated team of 64 trained counselors is assisting an average of 525 callers each day, providing necessary counseling and psychological support.
Recently, the Tele-Manas initiative of Uttar Pradesh received recognition from the Central Government, ranking it as one of the finest in the nation, achieving third place among large states.
A key aspect of Tele-Manas is its 24/7 availability, offering complimentary and confidential consultations from qualified mental health professionals.
Currently, there are four operational Tele-Manas centers in Uttar Pradesh—located at the Department of Psychiatry, BRD Medical College (Gorakhpur), Mental Health Institute and Hospital (Agra), Mental Hospital (Bareilly), and Mental Hospital (Varanasi). These centers provide initial consultations, guidance, and referrals to additional medical care when necessary.
Launched in October 2022 by the Yogi Adityanath administration, the Tele-Manas helpline has extended mental health services to both urban and rural populations, with over 3.45 lakh individuals benefiting from this service since its inception.
To facilitate access, the state government introduced two helpline numbers — 14416 and 1800-891-4416 (toll-free) — allowing anyone in need of mental health assistance to reach out to expert counselors. The entire consultation is conducted in a confidential manner, offering a secure and supportive environment for individuals to share their concerns openly.
The Tele-Manas mental health counseling service has significantly contributed to raising awareness about mental wellness and has become a vital resource, delivering free and high-quality consultations to those facing mental health difficulties.
Additionally, the Yogi government is contemplating expanding this initiative to reach a wider audience, ensuring that mental wellness is prioritized for every resident in the state, thereby guiding millions towards a healthier and more positive existence.
