Lucknow, March 28 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday visited Lokbandhu Shri Raj Narayan Combined Hospital in Lucknow after the tragic deaths of four teenagers, including two girls, and the illness of several others due to food poisoning at a government-operated shelter home.
The Chief Minister assessed the situation and promised that the sick children would receive appropriate medical treatment.
“Today, I met the children impacted by food poisoning at Lokbandhu Shri Raj Narayan Combined Hospital, Lucknow, inquired about their health, and gathered information regarding their treatment from the doctors,” the Chief Minister remarked in a post on X.
He emphasized that the welfare of the children is of utmost importance and that competent doctors are providing necessary care. “I pray to Lord Shri Ram for the swift recovery of all the children,” he added.
This unfortunate event occurred at Nirvana Rajkiya Bal Grah, a government-run children’s home in Lucknow, which accommodates 142 children.
Reports indicate that symptoms of illness began appearing among some children on March 20. Since then, 23 children have been hospitalized, with their health deteriorating progressively.
Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of Lokbandhu Hospital, Dr. Rajiv Dixit, mentioned, "Upon arrival, several children were found to be suffering from anaemia and dehydration. We have conducted all essential investigations, including X-rays and blood tests."
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. N.B. Singh also reported that numerous children were exhibiting symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea. “The precise cause is still unknown, but severe dehydration could have contributed,” he stated.
In response to the incident, the District Magistrate has mandated an immediate inquiry to uncover the precise cause of the illnesses. Authorities are thoroughly investigating the food served at the children’s home and the overall conditions of the facility.
Dr. Rajiv Dixit added that many of the affected children have mental challenges and require specialized care. “It is probable that they had caretakers at the facility, but we need to evaluate if sufficient supervision was provided,” he noted.
