29 People Injured in 5.6 Magnitude Earthquake in Iran

Tehran, Dec 6 (NationPress) A minimum of 29 individuals were reported injured following an earthquake registering a magnitude of 5.6 that shook the southwestern Iranian provincial region of Khuzestan, as stated by the semi-official Fars news agency.

The seismic event occurred at 7:32 a.m. local time at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter located in Haftkel County. It also affected the Masjed Soleyman County and was felt in the provincial capital Ahvaz, as reported by Xinhua news agency citing Fars.

According to Khuzestan Governor Mohammad Reza Mavalizadeh, all injured individuals, with the exception of one child who suffered a leg fracture, were discharged from the hospital after receiving outpatient care.

Governor Mavalizadeh further mentioned that 296 residential units in Masjed Soleyman experienced damage due to the quake.

Fars reported that 12 rescue teams, consisting of 58 trained rescuers, have been deployed to the affected regions.

The report also highlighted that more than 10 aftershocks were recorded in Khuzestan following the initial quake, with the strongest aftershock measuring 5.2.
