A three-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and murdered in the Quaidabad area of Malir district in Karachi, Pakistan, with her body discovered stuffed inside a sack near her residence, local media reported on 26 June. The case has drawn urgent attention from provincial authorities and reignited concerns about child safety in Pakistan's largest city.

How the Crime Came to Light

The victim, identified only by her initial 'K' to protect her identity, had gone missing while playing outside her home. Her father told authorities that the family searched the neighbourhood before making the grim discovery — the child's body concealed in a sack on a street close to their house.

Police transported the body to a hospital for medico-legal examination. Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted, adding that the precise cause of death would be established once the chemical examination report was received.

According to police sources, the sexual assault and murder are believed to have occurred in the vicinity of the victim's home. Investigators have searched several houses on the street and collected the credentials of local residents as part of the ongoing probe.

A Broader Pattern of Violence Against Women and Children in Karachi

This case emerges against a troubling backdrop. Statistics released in May by the Police Women and Child Protection Cell revealed that at least 388 adults and 10 minors faced domestic violence, harassment, abuse, and related crimes in Karachi between January and April this year.

Of the 297 domestic abuse complaints filed in that period, 190 were resolved while nearly 100 cases remained pending — pointing to systemic delays in delivering relief to victims. Police formally registered only three cases out of those 297 complaints.

The protection cell also received 83 harassment and intimidation complaints, of which 42 were resolved and action on 41 remains ongoing. An additional 19 complaints related to sexual assault were logged, with 10 still pending investigation and legal action.
