Kabul, Aug 20 (NationPress) Afghan counter-narcotics police have successfully disrupted two significant drug trafficking operations, apprehending three alleged smugglers in the northern province of Takhar and the southern region of Zabul, as disclosed by the Ministry of Interior Affairs on Wednesday.
According to the ministry's report, acting on intelligence tips, security forces carried out two distinct operations near Taluqan, the capital of Takhar, and in the Shajoy district of Zabul, seizing 249 kg of opium and capturing three traffickers. The detainees are currently undergoing preliminary investigations and will be transferred to judicial authorities for further legal proceedings, as stated.
In a related initiative, Afghan counter-narcotics police reported on Monday that they arrested 16 suspected drug traffickers and seized 872 kg of narcotics in the western province of Herat.
Moreover, Afghan police discovered a cache of weapons and ammunition during two separate operations in eastern Ghazni and southern Uruzgan provinces, as announced by the Ministry of Interior Affairs on Wednesday.
The confiscated items comprised 16 pieces of both heavy and light weaponry, including PK machine guns, M16 rifles, Kalashnikovs, assault rifles, and rocket launchers, which were found in Tirin Kot, the capital of Uruzgan, as well as in the Jaghouri and Qara Bagh districts of Ghazni, the ministry reported.
Additionally, authorities recovered a significant quantity of ammunition and military gear, including communication devices, explosives, and numerous cartridges and bullets during these operations.
