Concerns Raised by Arab League, Iraq, Egypt Regarding Syria's Security Crisis

Cairo/Baghdad, March 9 (NationPress) The Arab League (AL) has been monitoring the security situation in Syria with significant concern, as stated by the pan-Arab organization.

On Saturday, the AL also condemned violence and indiscriminate killings, along with any external interventions that could escalate the internal turmoil in Syria, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

The Secretary General of the League of Arab States denounced acts of violence and the targeting of government security forces on Saturday.

According to the Egyptian Ahram Gate website, the General Secretariat remarked in a statement on Saturday: "The General Secretariat condemns the acts of violence and targeting of government security forces, the ongoing killings, and any foreign interventions that threaten civil peace and exacerbate Syria's current challenges."

"We are closely monitoring the developments in the coastal region of Syria and the confrontations that have occurred there," the statement continued.

The General Secretariat emphasized that these circumstances necessitate a focus on policies and actions that bolster stability to prevent any plans that aim to destabilize Syria and undermine its recovery potential.

The ongoing events in Syria call for strategies that reinforce stability and civil peace to counter attempts to destabilize the country and obstruct its recovery, the statement further added.

On the same day, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed its apprehension regarding the current security developments in Syria and urged for the protection of civilians and restraint from all involved parties.

Iraq firmly rejects any targeting of innocent civilians, as stated in a press release, warning that ongoing violence could worsen the crisis and deepen regional instability.

The Ministry called on all parties to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to settle disputes instead of escalating military actions.

Following clashes in Syria's coastal Latakia Governorate, which caused significant casualties and injuries, Egypt's Foreign Ministry released a statement on Friday night, reaffirming Egypt's support for the Syrian state, its national institutions, and its stability amidst security challenges.

The Ministry declared that Egypt opposes any actions that could undermine the security, safety, and stability of the Syrian populace.

According to casualty figures from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 237 individuals have died in Syria's coastal region since the latest military escalation commenced on Thursday.

The war monitor reported that among the deceased were military personnel, resistance fighters, and civilians as government forces intensified their crackdown on remnants of the former regime's military factions in the governorates of Latakia, Tartous, and Hama.

This marked the deadliest escalation in the country since the previous government fell last December, according to the observatory.
