A 25-year-old man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer in Yeronga, a suburb of Brisbane, Australia, on Saturday night, 2 August, according to a statement released by the Queensland Police Service (QPS) on Sunday. The incident involved the man allegedly threatening officers with a piece of wood before resisting arrest and injuring a senior constable.

Officers from the QPS were initially dispatched to an address in Yeronga at approximately 5:50 pm local time after receiving a call for assistance. Upon arrival, they found the man armed with a piece of wood, which he allegedly used to threaten the attending officers and subsequently threw at them.

The man then climbed onto a police vehicle. Officers, including members of the dog squad, made multiple attempts to engage with him and de-escalate the situation. He then allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot, at which point he reportedly assaulted a senior constable while resisting arrest.

The injured senior constable was transported to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the alleged assault. The officer has since been discharged. No further injuries to police personnel were reported in connection with this incident.
