Dhaka, July 29 (NationPress) The Awami League of Bangladesh has vehemently condemned the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus for its so-called “reckless and disgraceful” decision to modify the structure of Ganabhaban, the official residence of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The party has denounced this action as a direct assault on the nation's democratic legacy, accusing the interim administration of exceeding its authority.

Awami League described the decision as “reckless and disgraceful” and voiced serious concerns regarding the “illegal, fascist usurper Yunus and his clique’s politically driven endeavor” to create a “so-called mass graveyard” within the Ganabhaban grounds.

“This illegal occupying group seems to misunderstand that Ganabhaban is not merely Sheikh Hasina’s personal residence. It represents the official residence of Bangladesh's head of government and has been architecturally designed to align with the National Parliament complex. The renowned American architect Louis I. Kahn designed the Parliament building and its surroundings, recognized globally as a remarkable example of architectural achievement, emblematic of Bangladesh’s culture and heritage,” stated Awami League in a press release on Monday.

“Modifying this structure equates to an attempt to distort our national heritage and cultural identity. Hence, we categorically oppose any fundamental alterations to the architecture of the National Parliament building, Ganabhaban, or any of its related structures,” the statement elaborated.

As they drew comparisons, the party emphasized that just as the White House serves as the official residence of the President of the United States and 10 Downing Street that of the British Prime Minister, so too does Ganabhaban serve as the official residence of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, not a personal home of Sheikh Hasina.

Criticizing the Yunus-led interim government, Awami League asserted that “this construction, disregarding Ganabhaban's architectural significance, is fueled solely by deep-rooted animosity toward the daughter of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina.”

The party highlighted that the verdant surroundings and ecological balance around Ganabhaban hold immense ecological importance, which is being overlooked “out of malice and spite by this fascist, murderous, and illegitimate regime of Yunus.”

“Just days ago, after failing to manage the aftermath of the Milestone tragedy, the fascist murderer Yunus resorted to Facebook to plead for public assistance. Yet today, he is shamefully utilizing taxpayers' money on such hateful and unnecessary initiatives. For this violent extremist faction, prioritizing their hatred takes precedence over saving lives. On behalf of the Bangladesh Awami League, we categorically reject and protest this vile, politically charged act,” the statement concluded.
