The election affidavits indicate that the total assets of the Jamaat candidates—both movable and immovable—are valued at a minimum of Bangladeshi taka (Tk) 10 million or more.
The candidate for Dhaka-7, Md Enayat Ullah, leads with an estimated wealth of around Tk 1.16 billion, while his liabilities are reported to be approximately Tk 830 million, as per the Bangladeshi daily Prothom Alo.
As per the affidavits, Jamaat's leader Shafiqur Rahman is contesting in Dhaka-15, with disclosed assets valued at around Tk 15 million.
Other millionaire candidates include Mohammad Nazrul Islam in Dhaka-1 and Md Abdul Haque in Dhaka-2; although the latter's nomination faced cancellation at the scrutiny stage, he retains the option to appeal.
Among the remaining candidates, four from Jamaat in Dhaka—Mohammad Kamal Hossain in Dhaka-5, Md Abdul Mannan in Dhaka-6, Md Afzal Hossain in Dhaka-19, and Md Abdur Rauf in Dhaka-20—report assets below Tk 10 million.
Enayat Ullah boasts the highest annual earnings among Jamaat candidates, with a reported income of Tk 68,635,000, followed by SM Khaliduzzaman with around Tk 36,400,000 per year.
The affidavit also outlines the annual incomes of other Jamaat candidates: Kabir Ahmed around Tk 3.8 million, Syed Zainul Abedin about Tk 2.5 million, Muhammad Ashraful Haque Tk 2.3 million, Jasim Uddin Sarker Tk 2.1 million, Abdul Baten Tk 1.6 million, and Mir Ahmad bin Quasem approximately Tk 1.1 million.
Reports indicate that for the 13th parliamentary elections, Jamaat has relinquished three of the 20 seats in Dhaka district and the city area as part of an electoral seat-sharing agreement with alliance partners.
Specifically, Dhaka-8 and Dhaka-11 have been allocated to the National Citizen Party (NCP), which nominated Nasiruddin Patwari and Nahid Islam, respectively.
The Dhaka-13 seat has been reportedly assigned to another ally, the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis.
The elections in Bangladesh, set for February 12, are unfolding amidst rising political tensions, with growing dissatisfaction within the NCP regarding its alignment with Jamaat for the upcoming polls.
