Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 8 (NationPress) The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police announced on Sunday that they have apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals accused of murdering the 'anti-India' leader and spokesperson for Inqilab Moncho, Sharif Osman Hadi, last December.
The two suspects have been identified as Rahul alias Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain.
These individuals were taken into custody near the India-Bangladesh border in the Bongaon sub-division of the North 24 Parganas district, according to a police statement.
"Intelligence reports indicated that these two Bangladeshi nationals, after committing serious offenses such as extortion and murder in Bangladesh, fled their homeland and illegally entered India. They were reportedly attempting to find refuge in the Bongaon border area, aiming to return to Bangladesh when the opportunity arose," the statement detailed, with a copy shared with IANS.
"Following this information, a raid was executed, resulting in the interception of two Bangladeshi nationals: Rahul alias Faisal Karim Masud (37), from Patuakhali, Bangladesh, and Alamgir Hossain (34), a resident of Dhaka, during the night of March 7-8, 2026," the statement elaborated.
Initial investigations revealed that Rahul and Alamgir Hossain were involved in the murder of Osman Hadi, a political activist in Bangladesh, and subsequently fled.
"They illegally crossed into Indian territory via the Meghalaya border, traversed various locations within India, and ultimately arrived at West Bengal's Bongaon, intending to re-enter Bangladesh," the statement further stated.
A specific case has been registered, and the two individuals are now in police custody, having been presented before the relevant court on Sunday.
