BNM Protests in London Highlight Human Rights Violations in Balochistan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
London, April 10 (NationPress) The Baloch National Movement (BNM) demonstrated in London outside the Prime Minister’s residence, protesting against the relentless human rights abuses occurring in Balochistan. These include enforced disappearances, collective punishment, and what they describe as the "genocide" of civilians by the Pakistani military.
The protests, which took place this week, are part of a month-long Global Campaign initiated by the BNM, starting from March 10. The event saw a significant turnout of members from the Baloch diaspora.
During the protests, the BNM launched a well-structured awareness initiative, with activists distributing informative pamphlets at crucial political, media, and tourist spots across the city to shed light on the current crisis in Balochistan.
The targeted locations included the Prime Minister's Office, the UK Parliament, the BBC headquarters, and other notable public venues.
Senior BNM figure Hassan Dost Baloch addressed the crowd, asserting that Pakistan is "misguided in thinking it can stifle the Baloch national movement through acts of genocide."
He recalled the sacrifices made by Baloch national leaders and the BNM's leadership in 2009, emphasizing that "the movement has gained momentum since then, and today the Baloch nation is closer than ever to realizing its freedom."
He further stated that "the ongoing actions of the state in Balochistan are clear evidence of Pakistan’s inability and failure."
According to the BNM, other speakers at the rally—including human rights advocates Abid Abdullah, Jasim Baloch, and Ahmed Abdul Hameed—also voiced their concerns and underscored the pressing need for heightened international focus on the critical situation in Balochistan.
Last week, the BNM organized a peaceful demonstration in Busan, South Korea, emphasizing the ongoing human rights violations in Balochistan and the systematic military oppression by Pakistani forces.
As part of its ongoing global initiative, the BNM stated that these protests aim to elevate international awareness and advocate for justice and liberation for the Baloch people, with educational pamphlets widely circulated among passers-by.
During the event, BNM member Bakhtawar Baloch delivered a speech in Korean to inform the local audience and media about the dire circumstances in Balochistan, urging global solidarity against the atrocities perpetrated by Pakistani forces.
“The demonstrators raised powerful slogans demanding freedom for Balochistan and vehemently condemned the violence of the Pakistani army. The slogans echoed calls for an end to enforced disappearances, the release of all missing persons, justice for victims, and liberation from occupation and repression,” stated the BNM.
