Islamabad, May 6 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, at least five paramilitary troops lost their lives and six others sustained injuries due to a roadside bomb that targeted a security convoy in Balochistan, Pakistan, on Tuesday, according to security sources.
The attack occurred around 11:45 AM local time (0645 GMT) in the Kachhi district, when an improvised explosive device detonated near a convoy of the Frontier Corps, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Officials confirmed that the convoy, consisting of six vehicles, was engaged in routine movement at the time of the explosion, leading to both fatalities and injuries.
Security forces immediately sealed off the area and commenced a search operation to identify the perpetrators.
The injured personnel were transported to nearby medical facilities for urgent care, with several in critical condition.
As of now, no group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack. However, local security officials indicate that the Balochistan Liberation Army-Azad faction (BLA-A) has a significant presence in the area, alongside several other smaller armed organizations.
Just last week, a significant assault by the Fateh Squad of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) in the Mongochar region of Kalat district led to substantial damage to government properties and the blockage of the Quetta-Karachi highway.
Security sources reported that BLA militants obstructed the highway, halting traffic and inspecting various vehicles, including passenger buses.
During the attack, armed militants invaded the Mongochar market, seizing control of multiple government structures, such as the offices of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Judicial Complex, and National Bank of Pakistan, which they subsequently set ablaze.
“The buildings sustained major damage due to the fire. The militants escaped the scene before security forces could arrive,” sources stated.
The BLA Fateh Squad took responsibility for the attack, claiming it is part of their ongoing “struggle for liberation.”
