Brazilian President Lula Remains 'Alert and Oriented' While Awaiting Medical Release

Sao Paulo, Dec 15 (NationPress) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is currently alert and oriented following his emergency surgery for an intracranial hemorrhage, according to a recent medical update.

The 79-year-old leader is eating normally and walking around the Sirio-Libanes Hospital in Sao Paulo. He is set to undergo additional blood tests, although no further imaging diagnostics are planned, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

His healthcare team has indicated that Lula is in intermediate care and is expected to be discharged shortly, with hopes of returning to his duties next week.

On Friday, the president posted a video on social media depicting him walking in the hospital corridor, conversing with a doctor, and chatting with his spouse, Rosangela da Silva. He shared on X that he feels strong and well.

After experiencing a severe headache, Lula was admitted for emergency surgery where a hematoma was discovered between his brain and the meningeal membrane.

Medical professionals confirmed that there were no injuries or adverse effects resulting from the hematoma.

This medical issue was associated with Lula's fall at the presidential residence, the Palacio da Alvorada, in late October, which resulted in a head injury requiring five stitches and led to the cancellation of several engagements, including his trip to the BRICS summit in Russia.

Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is planning to run for reelection in 2026, as confirmed by the presidency's Secretary of Social Communication, Paulo Pimenta.

Pimenta reassured in an interview with CNN Brasil that the president is in good health after the medical procedures for the brain bleed, stating that he is the most qualified and prepared individual to continue leading Brazil.

"President Lula is doing exceptionally well. This is a straightforward procedure. He is someone who takes care of himself consistently, demonstrating discipline. He is knowledgeable about Brazil and is extremely prepared," Pimenta remarked.

"I have no doubt that President Lula is the most capable and qualified person. He will certainly be our candidate in 2026 to further our agenda," he emphasized, according to Xinhua news agency.
