Brazil's President Returns to Capital Following Positive Medical Checkup

Brasilia, Dec 19 (NationPress) The President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, has made his way back to Brasilia after a cranial tomography showed that his condition remains stable, as reported by his medical professionals.

Dr. Roberto Kalil Filho, Lula's personal physician, indicated that the results from this examination were even more favorable than previous assessments. The president has been authorized to return to Brasilia, where he will receive medical evaluations every ten days.

While Lula has been advised to refrain from physical exercise, he is allowed to carry on with his regular activities.

The president has recently undergone multiple emergency procedures to address an intracranial hematoma resulting from a fall in the bathroom on October 19, and he received five stitches to mend a wound on the back of his head.

On Friday, Lula is set to convene with his ministers for a lunch meeting at Granja do Torto, the presidential residence in Brasilia.

Earlier this week, Lula expressed his intent to harshly penalize those involved in the 2022 coup attempt.

“I believe that General Braga has every right to the presumption of innocence,” Lula remarked during a press briefing, referring to the detained retired General Walter Braga Netto, who was the defense minister under former President Jair Bolsonaro.

This press conference, conducted at Sirio Libanes Hospital shortly after Lula's release, marked his first public appearance since undergoing emergency skull surgery last week, with his medical team and first lady, Rosangela da Silva, present.

Braga Netto, who faces accusations of attempting to obstruct investigations, was arrested last Saturday under an order from the Supreme Federal Court. The Federal Police allege that Bolsonaro was plotting a coup in 2022 to block Lula from taking office.

Lula stated that it is intolerable to involve high-ranking military officials in a plot aimed at assassinating the president, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

The 79-year-old Brazilian President plans to pursue reelection in 2026, as confirmed by the presidency's Secretary of Social Communication, Paulo Pimenta.

In an interview with CNN Brasil, Pimenta affirmed that the president is in good health following medical treatment for a brain bleed, asserting he is “the most qualified and prepared person” to continue leading the nation.

“I have no doubt that President Lula is the most qualified and capable person. And he will certainly be our candidate in 2026 to maintain our project,” Pimenta was quoted as saying by the Xinhua news agency.
