Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Mathews III Receives Russia's Prestigious Order of Friendship

New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Russian Embassy in India organized an elegant reception to celebrate Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, who was awarded Russia's prestigious Order of Friendship.
The gathering, which took place on Thursday evening in New Delhi, acknowledged the Catholicos' outstanding contributions to strengthening the bond between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, alongside his remarkable humanitarian initiatives.
Denis Alipov, the Ambassador of Russia to India, conferred the honour on behalf of the President of Russia, highlighting the Catholicos' steadfast commitment to enhancing dialogue between the two sister Churches. This accolade also recognized his pivotal role in establishing innovative collaborations, such as the partnership between Moscow’s Central Clinical Hospital of St. Alexis and Kerala’s St. George’s Hospital.
This accolade, presented by the President of Russia, is awarded to individuals who have greatly promoted friendship and mutual understanding between different nations.
Youhanon Mar Demetrios, Metropolitan of the Delhi Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, also spoke at the event, underscoring the shared principles and mutual respect that form the foundation of the relationship between the Churches.
The ceremony was graced by notable diplomats, including ambassadors from Belarus, Uzbekistan, Egypt, and Mongolia, as well as representatives from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and other countries. Members from the business, social, and religious communities, along with Russian expatriates, attended the event.
A rendition of Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria by the Delhi Chamber Choir added a cultural flair to the solemn occasion and was a highlight of the evening.
The recognition of Baselios Marthoma Mathews III represents a notable chapter in the history of the Malankara Orthodox Church.
