Jakarta, Oct 28 (NationPress) On Tuesday, Indonesia's Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin engaged in discussions with India's Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan in Jakarta, focusing on strategies to enhance defence collaboration between the two nations.
The Indian Embassy in Jakarta reported that the discussions included potential partnerships in military medicine, specifically through specialist training programs for the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) doctors. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance defence capabilities and human resource development.
During the meeting, the Indonesian Defence Minister expressed gratitude for the hospitality shown by the Government of India towards the Indonesian delegation during India's Republic Day Parade in January 2025.
The CDS is currently visiting Indonesia from October 26-31, with the objective of further solidifying the strong defence relationship between India and Indonesia.
Throughout his visit, General Chauhan is scheduled to hold discussions with his Indonesian counterpart, General Agus Subiyanto, Commander in Chief of Indonesia’s Armed Forces, and other high-ranking officials, including the Chiefs of Staff from the Indonesian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
General Chauhan will also visit Bandung and Surabaya to explore key defence industry establishments and shipyards aimed at enhancing defence industry cooperation between the two nations. Furthermore, he plans to meet with senior representatives from leading Indonesian defence firms and engage with various defence think tanks in Indonesia.
This visit underscores the increasing defence engagement between India and Indonesia and seeks to follow up on the defence-related outcomes from President Prabowo Subianto's state visit to India in January 2025. The initiative aims to deepen cooperation between the two countries, which are Comprehensive Strategic Partners, in the area of defence collaboration,” as stated by the Indian Embassy in Jakarta.
During his first state visit to India, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was the Chief Guest at this year's Republic Day celebrations. This visit coincided with the 75th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Indonesia, a significant milestone that signifies the enduring friendship and historical ties between the nations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Subianto have reiterated the importance of continuing to deepen and broaden their defence cooperation as maritime neighbours and strategic partners.
