EAM Jaishankar Commences Official Visit to Qatar Today to Meet Qatari PM

New Delhi, Dec 30 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar is preparing for a three-day official visit to the State of Qatar starting from December 30, as per the announcement from the Ministry of External Affairs.

The MEA disclosed in an official communication that during his trip, the EAM will engage with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

This visit is designed to assess various facets of bilateral relations between India and Qatar, focusing on critical areas such as politics, trade, investment, energy, security, cultural ties, and people-to-people relations.

The MEA stated, "EAM's visit will facilitate both parties in evaluating different aspects of their bilateral ties, covering political, trade, investment, energy, security, cultural, and people-to-people interactions, in addition to regional and global issues of common interest."

EAM Jaishankar is expected to leave Qatar on January 1.

India and Qatar maintain warm and amicable relations, characterized by frequent high-level engagements aimed at enhancing their partnership.

The last significant interaction took place during EAM Jaishankar's official trip to Qatar and Bahrain from December 6 to 9.

During that visit, he met with Qatar's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, as well as Minister of State Ahmed Al Sayed, on the margins of the Doha Forum.

In late October, both nations conducted the fifth round of Foreign Office Consultations.

This meeting comprehensively reviewed the full range of India-Qatar bilateral relations, including high-level exchanges, trade, investment, energy, education, culture, and people-to-people connections.

Topics of discussion also included opportunities for enhancing collaboration in areas such as renewable energy, fintech, start-ups, and technology. Both sides exchanged views on significant regional and global matters of mutual interest, as highlighted by the MEA in their press release.

Previously, on September 9, EAM Jaishankar met with Qatar's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Saudi Arabia to discuss the advancement of bilateral relations.

The MEA noted that cooperation between India and Qatar has been progressively strengthening within an outstanding framework established by their historically close ties and ongoing, substantive interactions at the highest government levels.

The large, diverse, and accomplished Indian community in Qatar plays a crucial role in contributing to the nation’s development while fostering the bonds of deep-rooted friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
