Cairo, March 26 (NationPress) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez have voiced their disapproval of the current Israeli military actions taking place in the Gaza Strip.
During a phone call on Tuesday, the leaders stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, the halt of the Israeli ground operations in the Strip, and the swift provision of humanitarian assistance, as reported by the Xinhua news agency citing a statement from the Egyptian presidency.
Sisi reiterated Egypt's firm stance against any efforts to displace Palestinians from their homeland. Sanchez expressed support for an Arab-led initiative aimed at reconstructing Gaza and echoed Egypt's position in opposing the forced displacement of Palestinians or any actions that could undermine their rights, according to the statement.
Sanchez, in a brief message on X, confirmed his conversation with Sisi and called for the immediate restoration of the ceasefire and a return to negotiations to bring about peace and stability in the region based on the two-state solution.
He added, “This tragic spiral of destruction and death must end.”
The two leaders also discussed the situations in Syria and Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability and territorial integrity in both nations.
Israel resumed its airstrikes in Gaza on March 18 after the collapse of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas that had been in place since January 19. Following this, Israeli forces initiated ground operations across southern, northern, and central Gaza. The death toll from this latest escalation has exceeded 792, according to health authorities based in Gaza.
