United Nations, Jan 7 (NationPress) Heightened violence in Sudan, especially within the Kordofan region, continues to endanger civilians and trigger fresh displacements, according to a UN representative.
From October 25 to December 30, approximately 65,000 individuals were displaced from various areas in Kordofan, as reported by Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, during a daily press briefing, referencing data from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
In the South Kordofan state, there has been a notable surge in displacement recently, with the International Organization for Migration estimating that between December 31, 2025 and January 4 of this year, nearly 1,000 people fled due to violence in Quoz locality, Kadugli town, and Berdab village.
On Monday, an additional 2,000 individuals were displaced from Um Dam Haj Ahmed locality in North Kordofan, the spokesperson noted, adding that UN humanitarian workers in the country reported a drone strike on Tuesday in El Obeid, the state capital, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians, including children, as per Xinhua news agency.
