Fatal Explosion at Eni Fuel Depot Claims Two Lives and Injures Nine Near Florence

Rome, Dec 9 (NationPress) A devastating explosion at an Eni fuel depot in the vicinity of Florence, central Italy, led to the loss of two lives and injured nine others on Monday, as reported by the Italian media outlet Corriere della Sera. Furthermore, three individuals remain unlocated.
The incident transpired around 10:15 a.m. at the Eni facility located in Calenzano, leaving local residents in shock. The powerful blast resulted in shattered windows in nearby structures, causing some residents to mistakenly believe there had been an earthquake or a bomb.
In response to the explosion, authorities advised residents living within a five-km radius of the depot to remain indoors and keep their windows closed due to potential health hazards from the smoke. The explosion also caused disruptions to regional train services.
The Calenzano facility spans 170,300 square meters and is responsible for storing petrol, diesel, and kerosene for future distribution, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
Eni, a leading energy company in Italy, has stated that the cause of the explosion is currently under investigation. The company reassured that the flames were contained to a loading area and did not extend to adjacent storage tanks.
