Ghana Conducts Special Voting in Preparation for Upcoming General Elections

Accra, Dec 3 (NationPress) Polling places across Ghana have opened their doors for special voting as the nation gears up for the general elections scheduled on December 7.

This early voting session on Monday was designed for specific groups such as security personnel, journalists, electoral commission officials, and civil society advocates who will be on duty away from polling stations during the main voting day, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

The Electoral Commission (EC) indicated that approximately 131,478 individuals, which accounts for 0.007 percent of registered voters, are qualified to participate in today’s special voting.

Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the current member of parliament for the Korle-Klottey Constituency, informed Xinhua that the special voting process has proceeded smoothly throughout the morning.

"Voting commenced on time, and there has been a significant turnout thus far. No issues have arisen," Agyeman-Rawlings stated. "If the trends observed today continue on December 7, the public will likely accept the results. For this to occur, the EC must function as an impartial authority."

At the Legon Police Station polling location within the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Lydia Egyiri, a municipal electoral officer, shared her contentment with the efficient process, noting that all biometric machines, including verification devices, were fully operational and voters behaved appropriately.

The EC has announced that the special voting for the Western and Eastern Regions has been postponed to December 5 because some ballot papers were inadvertently revealed ahead of schedule.

On December 7, voters in Ghana will go to the polls to elect a new president and 276 members of parliament.
