Seoul, March 25 (NationPress) The Acting President of South Korea, Han Duck-soo, urged the citizens on Tuesday to honor the Constitutional Court's ruling concerning the impeachment of suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol, irrespective of its outcome.

During a meeting with ministers and officials focused on public safety, Han emphasized the urgency of respecting the court's decision, which is anticipated to be announced shortly regarding Yoon's impeachment tied to his brief declaration of martial law in December.

"No matter the outcome of the Constitutional Court's ruling, it deserves to be acknowledged as a lawful decision made following democratic protocols," stated the Acting President.

He added, "This ruling should serve as a foundation for our community to foster unity beyond division and discord."

Han appealed to the public to voice their opinions peacefully and within the legal framework, highlighting concerns about the rise of illegal and violent behaviors during demonstrations surrounding the ruling, according to the Yonhap news agency.

"The government is committed to ensuring the safety and lives of our citizens while maintaining order," he assured, promising to deploy the full extent of police and administrative resources to uphold public safety under any conditions.

In cases of resistance against law enforcement, including property damage, violence, or arson, Han indicated that the government would take decisive measures, including immediate detainment of offenders.

On March 24, the Constitutional Court of South Korea ruled to dismiss the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, reinstating him as Acting President amid the ongoing crisis involving suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol's temporary martial law declaration.

The court's panel of eight justices voted 5-1 to reject Han's impeachment, with two justices completely dismissing the impeachment motion.

This ruling occurred three months following the National Assembly's impeachment of the Prime Minister and then Acting President over his alleged involvement in Yoon's martial law declaration on December 3, among other allegations.

Although four justices acknowledged constitutional and legal violations in Han's decision regarding the appointment of additional justices, they concluded it did not warrant his removal from office.

Justice Chung Kye-sun, the only dissenting voice, argued that the violations were sufficiently serious to justify his impeachment.

The ruling was closely monitored as a benchmark for the court's stance on the charges against Yoon in his impeachment proceedings.

Meanwhile, the criminal trial of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol on insurrection charges is set to commence on April 14, as announced by the Seoul Central District Court during the second pre-trial hearing, which stated that the first formal hearing would take place that day regarding charges that Yoon incited an insurrection through his brief martial law declaration in December.
