IDF Launches Strikes on Hezbollah Positions Across Lebanon
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jerusalem, March 15 (NationPress) — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Sunday that they executed a series of strikes targeting Hezbollah's infrastructure throughout Lebanon.
The operations conducted on Saturday involved the Israeli Army attacking launch sites in the Al-Qatrani region of southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah militants were reportedly preparing to fire rockets, as stated by the IDF.
Additionally, the IDF dismantled command centers belonging to Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force in Beirut, which were allegedly used for launching assaults against Israel, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.
In light of these actions, the Israeli military issued immediate evacuation orders for residents in multiple neighborhoods of the Lebanese capital.
In a statement, Israeli Army Spokesman Avichay Adraee urged inhabitants of Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Hadath, Burj al-Barajneh, Tahwitat al-Ghadir, and Shiyah to evacuate without delay and to refrain from returning until further notice, as reported by the Anadolu news agency.
Adraee emphasized that the Israeli forces would conduct operations in these areas, citing Hezbollah activities as the reason. He warned that anyone present near Hezbollah facilities, personnel, or military assets would be considered a target.
Hezbollah, in turn, announced that it would also strike several Israeli military positions in border-adjacent villages.
According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, Israeli airstrikes have resulted in 826 fatalities in Lebanon since the onset of the current conflict, which began on March 2.
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has suggested negotiations with Israel, but Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated on Sunday that there were no immediate plans for direct discussions with Lebanon.
Reports from Israel's Haaretz newspaper indicated that direct talks between Israel and Lebanon were anticipated.
French President Emmanuel Macron mentioned last week that the Lebanese government was willing to engage in "direct talks" with Israel, offering to host negotiations in Paris, while stressing that all measures must be taken to avoid chaos in Lebanon.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recently remarked that the people of Lebanon have been "dragged into" a conflict, urging for an end to the violence as Israel's attacks on various regions of the country continue.
