Washington, Feb 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that India will accept any verified Indian illegal migrant residing in the US and will intensify efforts to combat human traffickers who prey on vulnerable individuals.
During a press conference following discussions with President Donald Trump, he stated, "India and the US share a common viewpoint that we are fully prepared to repatriate any verified Indian who is in the US illegally."
This month, the US deported approximately 100 illegal migrants to Amritsar, with India reportedly agreeing to accept a total of 18,000.
PM Modi expressed a desire to go beyond mere repatriation, emphasizing the need to tackle human traffickers who deceive "the children of very ordinary families" with "grand dreams and enticing promises."
He remarked, "Many of these individuals are transported unknowingly to foreign lands, making them susceptible to becoming illegal immigrants."
The Prime Minister called for a collaborative effort to combat human trafficking.
"With respect to both the US and India, we should strive to eliminate traffickers from within the system to effectively reduce or eradicate human trafficking," he remarked.
He also stated that, generally speaking, illegal migrants do not possess the right to reside in any country. This principle extends beyond India, as he noted, "Globally, we believe that anyone who unlawfully enters another country has no right to remain there."
India is also facing challenges related to illegal migrants entering from neighboring nations.
