Chandigarh, February 6 (NationPress) In a call for action against unauthorized immigration agents who take advantage of unsuspecting individuals by facilitating their travel abroad without proper visas or work permits, Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raise the issue with US President Donald Trump.

Sahney noted that media reports indicate there are approximately 725,000 illegal Indian immigrants residing in the United States, with 17,940 currently facing final removal orders.

“The recent return of the first group of 104 deported Indian youths on Wednesday is alarming, highlighting the uncertain futures faced by countless Indian nationals,” he expressed.

He criticized the inhumane treatment of the deported individuals, suggesting they could have been returned through regular commercial flights, preserving their dignity and fundamental human rights.

Sahney pointed out that even in times of conflict, deportations must adhere to the dignity standards set by the Geneva Convention, calling for stringent measures against unauthorized immigration agents.

“It is essential for all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and District Magistrates (DMs) to pinpoint and swiftly take legal action against these fraudulent agents,” he stated.

He underscored the necessity for rehabilitation and job opportunities for returning individuals, many of whom have sold their land and paid substantial fees to agents in pursuit of a better life.

Expressing his commitment to support these returnees, he pledged to offer free skill training and counseling through his Skill Centres of Excellence, aiding them in finding meaningful employment.

“I am dedicated to ensuring that these returnees gain the skills and job opportunities necessary to rebuild their lives,” Sahney declared.

Another Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Malvinder Singh Kang described the situation as “unfortunate” and condemned the treatment of the individuals involved.

“The manner in which they were handcuffed and deported as if they were serious criminals is profoundly saddening and unacceptable. Immigration is a worldwide phenomenon, and people often seek better opportunities. Treating them like criminals not only damages our country’s reputation but also humiliates these individuals,” he remarked.

He concluded by stating that AAP has sought a response from the Union government in Parliament and demanded action to address the grievances of those affected.
