New Delhi, March 23 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Monday that more than 375,000 Indians have safely returned to India from various nations in West Asia, including nearly 1,000 from Iran. He reiterated his government's dedication to offer all necessary support to those affected.
During a discussion on the West Asia conflict in the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of this region for India, noting that "approximately 10 million Indians reside and work in Gulf countries."
He further stated, "The number of Indian crew members on commercial vessels in those waters is also substantial. Hence, our concerns are understandably heightened."
Outlining the government's actions to ensure the safety and well-being of Indians impacted by the conflict, PM Modi noted, "Since the onset of this war, every Indian in the affected countries has received necessary assistance. I have personally contacted the leaders of most West Asian nations in two rounds of discussions, and they have assured full safety for Indians."
"Regrettably, during this period, there have been casualties and injuries. In these challenging times, families are receiving essential support, and the injured are being provided with the best medical care possible. Our missions in the affected countries are actively assisting Indians—whether they are workers or tourists. We are committed to offering every possible help to all," he added.
PM Modi reiterated that in any crisis, the safety and security of Indians both domestically and abroad has always been paramount for the government.
Since the conflict began, the Prime Minister reported that over 375,000 Indians have returned safely to India, including nearly 1,000 from Iran, with more than 700 being medical students.
In Gulf countries, he mentioned a significant number of students enrolled in Indian schools. Due to the ongoing conflict, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has canceled the scheduled Class 10 and 12 examinations in these schools. "CBSE is implementing appropriate measures to ensure that these children’s education continues uninterrupted," he stated.
"The government remains attentive, vigilant, and fully prepared to offer any necessary assistance," PM Modi concluded.
