New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday regarding the multifaceted issues surrounding the ongoing conflict in West Asia and India’s strategic response.
His speech will take place shortly after US President Donald Trump retracted his earlier threats to strike Iran’s power infrastructure, indicating that both Iran and the US are engaged in “very constructive” negotiations, with a five-day extension granted.
On the previous day, PM Modi addressed the Lok Sabha, emphasizing the challenges posed by the West Asia conflict, particularly its impact on Indian nationals residing in Gulf countries and the broader economic implications.
He stated, “This conflict has generated unexpected challenges for India, encompassing economic, national security, and humanitarian issues. Our trade relations with the nations involved in the conflict are significant.”
Highlighting the trade repercussions, PM Modi remarked, “The conflict zone is a crucial trade corridor for us, especially for our crude oil and gas imports.”
Moreover, he noted the importance of West Asia to India, as “around one crore Indians are employed in the Gulf.”
Regarding the measures taken to ensure the safety and welfare of affected Indians, PM Modi explained, “Since the commencement of this conflict, every Indian in the impacted regions has received essential support. I have reached out personally to the leaders of numerous West Asian nations, and they have assured us of full safety for our citizens.”
He confirmed that over 375,000 Indians have successfully returned from West Asia, including 1,000 from Iran, and reiterated his government’s dedication to providing all necessary assistance to those affected.
Earlier on Sunday, PM Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to assess the situation and discuss ongoing and proposed strategies in response to the West Asia conflict.
