Dublin, Aug 1 (NationPress) The Indian Embassy in Ireland issued a warning on Friday urging Indian nationals to exercise caution regarding their personal safety and to steer clear of isolated areas, particularly during late hours.
The advisory shared on X highlighted a concerning uptick in the number of physical assaults against Indian citizens in Ireland recently. Additionally, the Embassy provided its contact information, including email and phone number, for Indian nationals in need.
"There has been a rise in reported physical attacks on Indian citizens in Ireland lately. The Embassy is actively communicating with the relevant Irish authorities regarding this matter. Simultaneously, all Indian nationals in the country are urged to take reasonable precautions for their personal security and avoid deserted areas, especially during odd hours," the Indian Embassy noted on X.
This advisory follows a violent assault on an Indian national in Tallaght, a southwestern suburb of Dublin, on July 26. In response to this incident, the Indian Embassy has been in contact with the victim and their family, providing all necessary assistance.
In a post on X, the Embassy stated, "Concerning the recent physical attack on an Indian national in Tallaght, Dublin, the Embassy is in contact with the victim and their family, offering all requisite support. The Embassy is also liaising with the relevant Irish authorities on this matter."
An Garda Siochana, Ireland’s national police and security service, has initiated an investigation following the brutal assault of a man in his 40s, originally from India, who was attacked and partially stripped by a group of assailants in Tallaght. The victim was severely beaten until passersby intervened. Reports indicate that the attackers also removed his trousers. The Irish Times reported this incident.
According to local media, the investigation is looking into the possibility of this attack being a hate crime. The group had falsely accused the man of behaving inappropriately around children, which was subsequently propagated online, including by notable far-right and anti-immigrant social media accounts.
Authorities stated that the man was transported to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment of his injuries and has since been discharged. Investigators suspect that some of the attackers may have been involved in other unprovoked assaults on foreign nationals in the Tallaght area recently.
Paul Murphy, a People Before Profit TD for the region, condemned the vicious attack, expressing that it’s "horrifying to witness such violence in our neighborhood."
He further stated, "Responsibility does not lie solely with the perpetrators of the violence but also with those disseminating racist falsehoods. The community is deeply shocked and outraged, and we will unite against violence, hatred, and division."
