The Indian Embassy in Dublin is actively engaging with the victims and community members, offering all necessary support.
In relation to the violence in Canada and the recent harassment faced by an Indian couple, India emphasized that it prioritizes the safety of its nationals and will collaborate with local authorities whenever security issues arise.
“Numerous incidents of violence against Indian nationals have been reported in Ireland. We have firmly addressed this matter with the Irish authorities in Dublin and the Embassy here. Notably, both the President of Ireland and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister have publicly condemned these heinous acts. Our Embassy in Dublin is in contact with the victims and community members, providing all requisite assistance. We have also issued a safety advisory for Indian nationals residing in Ireland, hoping that the situation will stabilize,” stated the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, during a regular media briefing in New Delhi.
Regarding the situation in Canada, he remarked, “We take the safety and security of our nationals very seriously. Our mission and consulates maintain close communication with community members. Whenever a security concern arises, we will promptly notify local law enforcement authorities for appropriate action.”
This week, Ireland's Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris condemned the “despicable acts of violence and racism” targeting the Indian community, while highlighting their positive contributions to Ireland, the second-largest island in the British Isles archipelago.
Harris made these remarks after meeting with representatives of the Indian community in Dublin.
“I met with representatives of Ireland’s Indian community today. I categorically condemn the abhorrent acts of violence and racism directed at some members of the Indian community recently. I express my gratitude to the Indian community for their valuable contributions to Ireland,” he posted on X following the meeting on August 11.
This meeting occurred after an Indian national was brutally attacked in Tallaght, a southwestern suburb of Dublin, on July 26. After the incident, the Indian Embassy in Ireland confirmed they were in contact with the victim and their family, offering assistance.
Recently, the Indian Embassy in Ireland issued an advisory recommending that Indian nationals exercise caution regarding their security and avoid isolated areas, especially during late hours.
In Canada, a widely circulated video depicted a group of young Canadian men shouting racial slurs and threats at an Indian couple in a parking lot in Peterborough, Ontario. This incident has raised significant concern about the increase in violence against Indian nationals in Canada.
The incident occurred on July 29 at the Lansdowne Place Mall parking lot, as confirmed by local police.
The Peterborough Police Service stated they have apprehended one individual in connection with the incident. "On Friday, August 8, 2025, officers initiated an investigation into this incident, which transpired on July 29, 2025. The investigation involved reviewing videos, some of which circulated on social media, containing hate-related language," they reported.
