Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) The External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, officially unveiled the new website, theme, and logo for BRICS 2026, which will be conducted under India's leadership.
In attendance were Union Ministers of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita and Kirti Vardhan Singh.
BRICS encompasses eleven significant emerging markets and developing nations: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. It acts as an essential forum for discussion and collaboration on pressing global and regional matters, as well as political and economic governance.
The logo designed for India's chairmanship harmoniously combines tradition with modernity. The petals emanate the vibrant hues of all BRICS nations, showcasing their unity and strength. At the heart of the logo, the "Namaste" gesture embodies India's ethos of warmth, respect, and collaborative spirit.
According to an official statement, "The logo's visual identity complements the three fundamental pillars of BRICS—Political & Security cooperation, Economic & Financial partnership, and People-to-People exchanges—each subtly represented through the logo's message of inclusivity, dialogue, and shared growth. The design encapsulates the broader vision of BRICS: cooperation, sustainable development, and global harmony."
The newly launched website serves as a hub for updates on BRICS initiatives and events occurring during India's Presidency.
The overarching theme for India's BRICS chairmanship is 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.' As stated, "India’s BRICS Chairship is guided by the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability', reflecting a people-centric and humanity-first approach articulated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister at the 2025 Rio Summit."
The BRIC framework was established at the inaugural meeting of BRIC Foreign Ministers alongside the UN General Assembly in New York in 2006. The first BRIC Summit occurred in Yekaterinburg, Russia in 2009, and in 2010, South Africa was added, transitioning BRIC into BRICS.
As of January 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE joined BRICS as full members, with Indonesia set to join in January 2025. Additionally, countries including Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam became Partner Countries in 2025.
During the launch of the BRICS India 2026 website, logo, and theme, EAM Jaishankar emphasized that India is embracing its BRICS chairmanship with a focus on humanity and a people-centric strategy, aiming to harness the collective potential of member nations for enhanced global welfare.
He remarked that BRICS has broadened its agenda and membership over the years, adapting to evolving global conditions while prioritizing people-centric development, fostering dialogue, and promoting practical cooperation.
While extending greetings for Makar Sankranti, Lohri, Magh Bihu, and Pongal, EAM Jaishankar stated, "Just as these festivals embody hope, renewal, and goodwill, India's BRICS chairmanship will strive to unite the collective potential of BRICS nations for greater global welfare. As India prepares to assume the BRICS chairmanship in 2026, we do so at a pivotal moment in the grouping's journey."
In 2026, BRICS will mark its 20-year anniversary, having developed into a "significant platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing economies."
He further pointed out that the current global landscape poses intricate and interconnected challenges, including geopolitical uncertainties, complex economic conditions, climate-related threats, technological advancements, and ongoing developmental disparities affecting nations worldwide.
In emphasizing India's strategy for its BRICS chairmanship, EAM Jaishankar remarked, "In this context, BRICS serves as a vital forum that encourages dialogue and cooperation, as well as practical responses that consider national priorities at various stages of development. India approaches its chairmanship with a humanity-first and people-centric methodology inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance."
He noted that India's chairmanship theme, 'Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,' reflects India's conviction that collaboration among BRICS states can effectively tackle shared challenges in a balanced and inclusive manner.
He elaborated that the theme underscores the necessity of enhancing capacities, fostering innovation, and ensuring sustainable development for the collective benefit of all.
He concluded by announcing that the four primary priorities of India's chairmanship—Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability—offer a coherent and balanced framework across the three foundational pillars: political and security, economic and financial, and cultural and people-to-people interactions.
