India's Consul General in Dubai, Dr E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, met Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdullah Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, to explore ways to deepen bilateral cooperation, trade, and investment between India and Sharjah. The meeting, confirmed by the Consulate General of India in Dubai in a post on X, signals an active diplomatic push to reinforce India-UAE economic ties at the emirate level.

What the Sharjah Meeting Covered

According to the Consulate, discussions centred on 'exploring opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, trade, and investment and reinforce India-Sharjah ties.' Sharjah, home to one of the UAE's major port and free zone ecosystems, is a significant gateway for Indian goods and services flowing into the Gulf region. The meeting builds on a broader pattern of India's diplomatic missions engaging sub-national stakeholders — not just federal counterparts — in the UAE.

Ras Al Khaimah Leg: Ruler, Chamber and Economic Zone

The day prior, on Tuesday, Reddy paid a courtesy call on Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. The Consulate said discussions focused on 'further deepening the longstanding and multifaceted India-Ras Al Khaimah partnership, including in the areas of trade, investment, business, people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges.' Reddy also thanked the ruler for the support extended to the Indian community in the emirate.

During the same visit, Reddy held a separate meeting with Mohamed Mosbbeh Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Those talks emphasised 'promoting trade, investment and greater engagement between the business communities of India and Ras Al Khaimah,' the Consulate said.

Reddy also met officials of the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ), including Puneet Jain, Chief Strategy Officer, and Mohammed Al Blooshi, Strategic Partnership Manager. The RAKEZ meeting covered 'matters of mutual interest and avenues for further strengthening India-Ras Al Khaimah economic and business ties.'

India and the UAE formalised a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2022, which has since boosted bilateral trade.
