Tehran, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Forces of Iran declared on Thursday the apprehension of 15 suspects charged with orchestrating sabotage in the southeastern region of Sistan and Baluchestan, as reported by the official IRNA news agency.

The arrests were executed during the ongoing 'Martyrs of Security' operation, according to the IRGC's Quds Base.

Security personnel pinpointed the group in the border regions between Iran and Pakistan, executing a coordinated ground operation backed by intelligence officers, military helicopters, and drones, as per IRNA.

This operation also resulted in the confiscation of a substantial stockpile of weapons and ammunition, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Sistan and Baluchestan, which shares borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan, has experienced numerous terrorist attacks targeting both civilians and security personnel in recent years.

In November, border security forces from Iran and Pakistan collaborated on a joint operation along the Pak-Afghan border within the province, aimed at addressing threats from Afghan and Tajik militants.

The Iranian government asserted that this joint military action—carried out in the Rasik, Chabahar, and Parwad regions—resulted in the deaths of at least 18 Afghan-Tajik suicide bombers.

Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps stated, “The militants entered into Iran from Pakistan disguised as oil tanker owners.”

Conversely, some reports indicated that those killed were smugglers and that the joint operation was not aimed at militants but rather at other criminal activities.

The border between Pakistan and Iran has frequently been exploited by smugglers, traffickers, and militants for infiltration and various operations.

Historically, Iranian border security forces have conducted operations within Pakistan, while Islamabad has executed airstrikes within Iranian territory targeting militant hideouts.
