Tehran, April 8 (NationPress) On Wednesday, Iran announced its readiness to suspend military actions if hostilities against it cease, while also proclaiming a limited opening of the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz for a duration of two weeks.

In comments made by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, this announcement comes amid active ceasefire discussions, suggesting a potential reduction in rising tensions.

He detailed that for the next two weeks, vessels will be permitted to transit through the Strait of Hormuz, contingent upon coordination with Iranian officials and compliance with operational protocols.

Araghchi elaborated that this decision stems from the US's request for negotiations based on its 15-point proposal, alongside President Trump's acceptance of the general framework of Iran's 10-point proposal as a foundation for talks.

He emphasized that Iran's stance is conditional upon reciprocal actions from the US.

"If assaults on Iran are halted, our robust Armed Forces will discontinue their defense operations. For the next two weeks, safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz will be facilitated through coordination with Iran's Armed Forces, keeping in mind technical limitations," Araghchi stated, reflecting the position of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

In parallel, Trump announced that he has consented to postpone planned military actions against Iran for two weeks.

"Provided the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to an immediate and complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I will suspend any bombing or attacks on Iran for a duration of two weeks," he remarked, labeling the move as part of a "dual-sided ceasefire".

This declaration marks a temporary pause in what appeared to be escalating conflict in the Gulf, with Trump asserting that US military objectives have already been met.

"We have surpassed all military goals and are progressing towards a definitive agreement regarding lasting peace with Iran and stability in the Middle East," he stated.

Trump indicated that Washington had received a "10-point proposal from Iran," which he described as a "feasible foundation for negotiations".

"Nearly all past contentious issues have been agreed upon by both the United States and Iran," he noted, implying that this pause would enable both parties to finalize terms.

"This two-week timeframe will allow for the agreement to be concluded and ratified," Trump asserted.

He positioned this development as a significant advancement in stabilizing the region, stating it was "an honor to bring this long-standing issue close to resolution."

Trump's announcement on Truth Social media came just under 90 minutes before his 8 p.m. EST deadline, during which he challenged Iran to agree to the deal or face dire consequences.
