Tehran, Jan 24 (NationPress) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has asserted that his nation is committed to peace rather than conflict or war, while dismissing external threats, according to the official news agency IRNA on Friday.
These statements were made during a gathering with several prominent figures in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan province, where he outlined his government's foreign policy approach.
Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran aspires to coexist in harmony with the world, prioritizing neighboring countries in its foreign relations.
"We must communicate with the world in the spirit of peace, health, and integrity, rather than through confrontation," he stated.
Furthermore, Pezeshkian indicated that Iran seeks to establish relations with all nations based on the three principles of dignity, expediency, and wisdom, with the exception of Israel, which he described as an aggressor that fails to recognize humanity.
He reiterated that Iran would not yield to the threats and sanctions posed by its adversaries, as reported by Xinhua.
Relations between Israel and Iran have intensified since the onset of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
Recently, the Iranian President also expressed a willingness to participate in nuclear discussions with the United States, contingent upon negotiations being held "on equal terms".
"We are open to negotiations; however, these dialogues must honor our dignity and wisdom and proceed on an equal basis. We will not capitulate to force," said Pezeshkian, according to IRNA.
He attributed previous negotiation breakdowns to the US's lack of reliability, particularly referencing its withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
"It is vital that we have assurances that the other party will adhere to the agreements made," he insisted, urging the West to lift sanctions. "They cannot impose sanctions one day and expect us to engage in negotiations the next."
