Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tehran, Feb 25 (NationPress) The Iranian Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has expressed Iran's commitment to achieving a "just and fair" agreement with the United States as soon as possible, emphasizing that both nations "have a unique opportunity to forge an unprecedented deal."
Araghchi shared these insights on X prior to the upcoming third round of indirect nuclear discussions between Tehran and Washington, which is set to take place on Thursday in Geneva, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
"Based on the understandings established in the previous discussions, Iran will recommence negotiations with the United States in Geneva, fully determined to secure a fair and equitable agreement in the shortest timeframe possible," Araghchi stated.
He declared, "Our core beliefs are unambiguous: Iran will never, under any circumstances, pursue the development of a nuclear weapon; we also will not relinquish our right to benefit from peaceful nuclear technology for the well-being of our people."
According to Araghchi, the two parties possess a "historic opportunity" to establish an unprecedented agreement that addresses mutual concerns and fosters shared interests, insisting that a deal is achievable if diplomacy takes precedence.
His comments follow a recent escalation of US military presence in the Middle East and two rounds of indirect nuclear talks focused on Iran's nuclear ambitions and the potential easing of US sanctions.
In addition, on Tuesday, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht Ravanchi, affirmed that Iran is prepared to undertake "whatever necessary" to finalize a nuclear agreement with the US.
"We are committed to doing everything needed to facilitate this agreement. We will approach the negotiation table in Geneva with utmost sincerity and goodwill," Ravanchi stated during an interview with NPR radio.
He added, "We hope that our goodwill and proactive stance will be met with a similar response from the Americans, and if there is a political will on all sides, I believe the deal can be finalized promptly."
Additionally, during a meeting in Tehran with Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan on Tuesday, Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh reaffirmed the nation's unwavering commitment to self-defense.
