Iran FM Araghchi in China for talks with Wang Yi amid US tensions

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, 6 May 2025, for high-level diplomatic talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, as Tehran intensifies its international outreach following a fragile ceasefire with the United States. The visit is part of a broader regional and global consultation tour that has already taken Araghchi to Pakistan, Oman, and Russia within the past week.

Agenda in Beijing

According to Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the two foreign ministers are expected to cover a wide range of subjects, including bilateral Iran-China ties, as well as regional and international developments. China remains one of Iran's most significant economic and diplomatic partners, and the meeting is seen as an effort by Tehran to shore up strategic support amid ongoing pressure from Washington.

The Russia Stop: Putin's Backing

Before heading to Beijing, Araghchi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg on 27 April. During that meeting, Putin reaffirmed Moscow's commitment to peace in the Middle East. Russia's state news agency Tass quoted Putin as saying:
