Tokyo, March 16 (NationPress) Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba emphasized the critical role of the United States in fostering peace in Ukraine.
After the virtual meeting of the "Coalition of willing" organized by the United Kingdom, Ishiba noted that diplomatic initiatives from countries in Europe and the United States are tirelessly being pursued to establish a fair and enduring peace in Ukraine, with Japan supporting these endeavors.
As per the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ishiba conveyed a written message for the "Summit Meeting on Ukraine," hosted by the UK, expressing his appreciation for ongoing peace efforts.
"We cannot condone unilateral attempts to alter the status quo by force, such as Russia's aggression against Ukraine, anywhere globally. Keeping this perspective, Japan has collaborated closely with Europe," PM Ishiba remarked.
"We must recognize that peace in Ukraine has ramifications not only for Europe but also for global security, including the Indo-Pacific region. We must unite to prevent the emergence of detrimental precedents. Continuous US involvement is essential," added the ministry statement, citing the PM.
Ishiba affirmed Japan's commitment to enhancing Ukraine's economic and social resilience. He pledged ongoing support for recovery and reconstruction through public-private partnerships from a medium to long-term viewpoint.
He expressed hope that the "coalition of willing" virtual meeting would mark a significant step toward achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, as stated.
Earlier this week, during Japan's participation in the Group of 7 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Canada, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Iwaya Takeshi, commended the peace efforts by the US and European nations.
He highlighted that the pathway to peace in Ukraine impacts not only Europe but also the entire international order, including the Indo-Pacific region, stressing the importance of avoiding situations that could lead to negative precedents, as the ministry statement indicated.
Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya also emphasized the achievement of a framework for sustainable peace, the necessity of US involvement, and the collective efforts of the G7, stating Japan is prepared to contribute positively.
He expressed Japan's desire to enhance Ukraine's resilience, which is crucial for long-lasting peace, by supporting recovery and reconstruction through public-private partnerships, as the statement noted.
