Rising Global Jihadism in Pakistan: A Disturbing Trend
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tel Aviv, March 26 (NationPress) Recent comments delivered during a gathering in Lahore, Pakistan, by Talha Saeed, the son of UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, alongside Saifullah Qasur from the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, reveal a disturbing trend. These speeches are not mere isolated episodes; they signify a larger movement, showcasing how Jihadist rhetoric is being adapted for a wider audience and intertwined with global conflicts, gaining traction on more visible platforms.
In an article for the ‘Times of Israel’, Sergio Restelli, an Italian author and geopolitical analyst, remarked that at a packed Eid celebration in Shalimar Bagh, Lahore, Talha Saeed's address resonated with an audience that extends concern far beyond South Asia.
“Advocating for jihad against India and Israel, he framed the conflict not merely as a local issue but as part of a larger civilizational struggle. With him, Saifullah Qasuri intensified the rhetoric, depicting Pakistan as the spearhead of a global Islamic fight that spans from South Asia to the Middle East and beyond,” Restelli stated.
“This isn’t fringe chatter. It serves as a stark reminder that the ideological framework of jihadism in Pakistan remains vibrant, flexible, and increasingly global,” he added.
Restelli emphasized that Talha Saeed is not a mere footnote; as the progeny of Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba, he signifies a generational shift within one of the most infamous jihadist organizations worldwide.
The expert pointed out that while Lashkar-e-Taiba initially gained notoriety through assaults on India, particularly the infamous 2008 Mumbai attacks, its narrative focus is now expanding.
He underscored that remarks made by LeT member Saifullah Qasuri further intensified this narrative, asserting that Pakistan is actively leading a confrontation against Israel, India, and Afghanistan.
“He spoke in grandiose terms about national prowess, claiming that Pakistan had established dominance in the skies and would soon command global waters. Although these claims were exaggerated, their intent was unmistakable—to inspire, mobilize, and project a sense of inevitability,” the report stated.
These recent occurrences illuminate a significant contradiction for Pakistan.
“On the global stage, Islamabad positions itself as a nation committed to counterterrorism and regional stability. It seeks investment, diplomatic recognition, and strategic alliances. Yet, individuals associated with groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba continue to operate freely, delivering speeches that openly advocate for jihad against multiple nations,” the report noted.
It stressed that Pakistan cannot present itself as a responsible international player while allowing jihadist rhetoric to flourish publicly and evading the responsibilities that such discourse entails in real-world alliances.
“This duplicity has repercussions. It erodes Pakistan’s credibility abroad, complicates its diplomatic relations, and fosters instability domestically,” Restelli concluded.
